Brock Lesnar's Facebook page has the news. I seriously doubt if Brock actually maintains his own page, and I take this with a grain of salt, but it doesn't look good for the UFC heavyweight champ. According to a recent post, Brock has suffered more health problems, presumably related to his intestinal issues. The setback may keep the star out of action for the next year. I hope this isn't true, but it very possibly is. Best wishes to Brock and we hope for a full recovery for him. We will give you more information as it becomes available.

Boxing has once again found a way to shoot its self in the foot. According to promoter, Bob Arum, the super fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is off for real. Anyone who knows boxing even a little, knows that this was very likely to happen from the beginning. I was shocked to learn how fast the dream fight came to reality, yet I was still not convinced it would actually happen. This is a loss to all of us fans and basically the last straw for me. I was raised watching greats like Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and the usual suspects. Boxing was a great sport, where the best routinely battled it out and celebrities graced the arenas, dressed in tuxedos and gowns. It truly was a spectacle. These days, boxing has lost that glamor and much of its appeal in the ring. While it has always had a shady element behind the scenes, today's promoters have brought the seamy side to the forefront. Big matches are few and far between and the sport seems to be losing some of its appeal. This fight was to be huge. This is the biggest fight the sport has to offer, but amid unfounded steroid accusations by Mayweather's camp and the pursuant litigation by Paquiao, it is off, for now...

UFC 108: The Tale of the Curse, is in the books and hopefully, the rash of injury and illness will come to a halt. The card was plagued like no other in history, as fighter after fighter went down, leaving the UFC gang to scramble for replacements and answers. All in all, it was a pretty entertaining night of fights, which led UFC President, Dana White, to proclaim that no fighters would be cut after the show. In a night with no titles on the line and a main event that had inspired few fans, there was plenty of action to satisfy the viewers. Full results and bonuses, plus a little commentary from yours truly, are after the jump!

By now, we all know that UFC Heavyweight Champion, Brock Lesnar, has been out with an intestinal illness, leaving his future, in and out of the octagon, in question. The champ is apparently suffering from diverticulitis, which can range from requiring minor treatment to being a life threatening disease. Despite the mystery surrounding Lesnar's ailment, it is obvious that he is suffering from a serious bout with the disease. This week, Brock returns to the doctor to determine of he is recovering sufficiently, or if he will require further surgery, which would possibly end the ex-wrestler's MMA career. We wish the champ the best and hope he get's great news from the doc, so he can get back in where he belongs. Check back for updates as news becomes available.

The big news that was announced on UFC 108 weekend, was the signing of former Pride lightweight champ, Takanori Gomi. Now the speculation begins about whom he may face in his debut fight for the promotion. No monetary figures were released, but you can be assured that Gomi didn't come cheap, so don't expect an easy road ahead for him. The UFC's lightweight division is loaded with talent, despite a seemingly insurmountable gap between BJ Penn and the rest of the roster. This makes for some interesting fights for "The Fireball Kid". Sean Sherk? Nate Diaz, who's brother Nick famously defeated Gomi by gogoplata, before failing a drug test and having the the result changed to a no contest? How about a rematch with Duane "Bang" Ludwig, who was giving Gomi fits, before having the fight stopped due to a nasty cut? The list could go on and on, but the big rumor right now is, Kenny Florian. While Kenny is a BJJ black belt, I don't think he is a high enough level grappler to just come out and use straight Jiu-jitsu to defeat Gomi. This would leave it likely that a large amount of the fight would be spent on the feet, providing the fans with a very exciting match up and opening the door to a second shot at BJ Penn for the winner.

The first salvo of 2010 has been fired, this time by a little promotion known as the UFC. Pride legend and lightweight champ, Takanori Gomi, has signed a multi-fight deal to challenge in the promotion's deepest division. "The Fireball Kid" was the poster boy for the Japanese promotion during its heyday, amassing an amazing resume that saw him go 13-1 for Pride. After the demise of the organization, much was made about him coming to the UFC, but instead he stayed in Japan, going 4-2 and looking as though he might be done as a top fighter. I think much of his problem, was the level of competition left him a little uninspired. Hopefully, a jump to the world's leading show will jump start him and boost his career back to the level it once was. No opponent or date has been set for Gomi's debut, but the possibilities are endless. I truly hope this is a sign that the UFC is willing to go out and try to bring in the world's best to take on their champion, BJ Penn.
